Houston SERVICE

This plan for service focuses on building the capacity to more effectively use volunteers to meet specific challenges within the City of Houston.

There are many diverse populations doing good work in the City. Our focus with Houston SERVICE is to engage more volunteers and to use them more effectively to achieve impact for at-risk youth, veterans affairs, and to educate citizens on life-saving CPR techniques.

Houston SERVICE wanted to make sure that its efforts to promote volunteerism would be more than a simple call to action; rather the efforts are aimed at ensuring that, once mobilized, volunteers have someplace to go– a place that would welcome them with open arms and create a meaningful experience for both the volunteer and the charitable cause.

In cities across America today, citizen service is often an underutilized or inefficiently utilized strategy by municipal governments. Cities of Service supports mayors to leverage citizen service strategies, addressing local needs and making government more effective.
